Larnaka is the international gateway to Cyprus, being its second port and having an international airport.  It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, and has plenty of historical sightseeing on offer to complement its deep-blue sea, bright sandy beaches and reliably sunny skies.  With its 400-berth marina, Larnaka is also a favoured destination for visitors with yachts.  Land-based tourists enjoy the palm-lined harbor promenade and the city’s international caliber shops, inviting cafes and panoramic Mediterranean views.

Larnaka is an attractive and quiet city which is the same all year round unlike many other areas of Cyprus, which tend to be very busy during the summer months and extremely quiet during the winter.  It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and has plenty of historical sightseeing on offer to complement its deep-blue sea, bright sandy beaches and reliably sunny skies.  Its famous Palm Tree Promenade and marina ensure a picturesque coastline and Larnaka boasts many of the most appealing beaches in Cyprus.  Its central location means that other cities and popular areas of Cyprus are within easy reach – Nicosia, the country’s capital, is less than 60km away, and Limassol and Paphos are approx 65km and 120km distance.

ABOUT OROKLINI

Not only is Oroklini conveniently located a few kilometres from Larnaca, ten minutes from town and fifteen minutes from Larnaca airport, but it is also a few minutes from Cyprus’ excellent network of motorways. You can reach Limassol in under an hour, Nicosia and Ayia Napa in 30 minutes, the Troodos mountains in an hour and Paphos in an hour and a half.

Oroklini enjoys a unique location, offering both beach and mountain views. In fact, its beautiful sandy beach is one of the best in Cyprus and has recently been awarded the international blue flag for cleanliness. One of the things that make Oroklini popular with tourists and residents alike is the one kilometre walkway which flanks the beach. Oroklini extends up onto the mountain, offering spectacular views as far as Famagusta. There is also a woodland area, nature trails and the lake, which is popular with bird watchers. There are many more places of interest, including the chapel dedicated to the prophet Elias and St Catherine’s Church with its holy water spring, to name but a few. There is also a horse riding school and donkey rides. For the more adventurous there is a go-cart track.

Whilst Oroklini may be a small village of just two thousand residents, it has much to offer and is proving to be an extremely popular choice with those who are looking for the ideal holiday home or a place to retire. Over the past couple of years Oroklini has seen a huge increase in both building of new properties and renovation of existing village houses, which means it is possible to find whatever suits your budget and lifestyle. There are also some excellent tavernas in Oroklini, which are the centre of the village’s social life. Its wide range of shops can provide everything from organic produce to a supermarket, a bakery, a bank, a chemist, a laundry and even a fitness centre.

The army base at Dhekelia lies just to the east of the village. Not only are many of the activities on the base made available to civilians, but, if you have the correct Ariel you can receive BFBS TV with all its English programs. With all this and the low humidity you will see why Oroklini is a place to be considered when looking for your property. But the story does not end there. The Oroklini Community Board, lead by the mayor, Spyros Elenodorou, have a five year plan in place. This will include a seventy-five acre leisure project and theme park at the Oroklini Lake. The facilities offered will include a theatre and entertainment areas which will consist of a stadium for 9,000 people designated in sections so that it can be used for large or small events, family and children’s recreation areas to include mini golf, swimming pool, playground, volleyball court, picnic area, sports facilities to include a football pitch, 10 tennis courts, 4 squash courts, 20 archery targets, fencing area, cycling lanes and 15 lane bowling alley. The public gardens will incorporate lakes, fountains, small bird and butterfly aviaries as well as benches and picnic areas. There will be areas specially designated for open-air performances by groups of amateur musicians, actors and even a magician. The feasibility studies and plans have been completed and it is expected that, once all legal and municipal procedures are finalised, construction will begin. Oroklini hopes, in the not too distant future, to be home to a 27 hole golf course, the first on the east of the island, which will offer championship courses and a golf academy. With so much to offer including its excellent climate, picturesque location and close proximity to both airport and motorway and friendly people, Oroklini is definitely an area to be considered when looking to buy property in Cyprus. In the words of the mayor Spyros Elenodorou “We don’t want Oroklini to be buildings, we want it to be a place where visitors and residents can have a nice time.”
